Nasreen Mohamedi

Today, reading a great article about the forgotten artists.  These are mainly from the female genre, that are over 50.  The art world as with most every other institution in culture is dominated by the young and the beautiful.  The article expressed an interest of artists that are in the mature and forgotten and of course, female.

Artist: Nasreen Mohamedi

Indian Artist died in 1990 at age of 54.  Her work was unknown much outside of her own country.  The last few months of her life, her work took a turn in two major international museum exhibitions (Madrid's Rena Sofia and Met Breuer ) which a major Indian donor (woman) was responsible for the patronage between $500,000 and 5 M dollars.  Her work is beautiful and minimal.  Her influences were Kandinsky and Malevich but in viewing I couldn't help but compare her more with Eva Hesse or of John Cage.
